Alveopora

Postby jeff on 14 May 2016 18:01

Came home to find this looking like this almost all the polyps are completely gone from the skeleton

I have it a very long time and another 2 that are the same size age ext. and they are grand fully opened now not a bother

Really don't think a fish caused this to happen since I seen the tank last night

Any ideas was thinking the fact I've added 4 new corals in the last couple of weeks I may have introduced a pest ( coral lover) any idea lads

It could have been stung by the hammer and/or the torch corals. Almost exactly the same thing happened to my Alveopora overnight too. It was too close to an aggressive Acan, I put pics on my thread about it that look very similar to the damage on yours. Move it well away from them and it might regrow, leave it and they might keep stinging it and kill it.
Chris.

Hi Jeff,

Not sure if alveopora is the same but I know goniopora is very dependent on potassium levels in your tank.

Might be worth looking into.

Crummy, sorry they aren't doing well. It seems like almost nothing has an "easy fix" in this hobby :( . Mine looked the very same as yours and I dipped it in a solution with chloromycetin cat eye drops because I thought It had jelly infection on the damaged bits (I'm not saying this is what is wrong with yours and it probably isn't because I'm pretty sure mine was stung by a big acan, but it worked on my one). I hope you get it sorted.
Chris.

Hey lads i bought a goni around three months ago and it has nearly doubled in size, the one thing i can say for these corals is that they do great when you dose Manganese, i had a small bright green alveopora and at the time i wasn't dosing anything and over the space of two months it went south, started reseeding from one side all the way over until it wasted away, it's one coral that depends highly on Manganese.

This is just my personal opinion from what I've seen

Regards

I've been dosing that since I got it.
That's not the issue.

You could try sealing it in with glue or reef putty...whatever it is.

Can't play the video but from what I can see its a barnacle I have one on a torch no harm at all, it pissed off the coral at the start for a little while but got used to it and are both growing in size now
