Sterbai corydoras fry

Postby phea2 on 08 Apr 2012 22:15

i was cleaning (breaking down) my community tank the other day and found some tadpole swimming around.. caught them and realize they were sterbai fry. i'm not sure how old they are, last time my corys spawn was a week ago but those fry are bigger than the week old ones i have.

Two in the food container are the 1 week old ones, and the others are the one i caught in the community tank. i'm feeding them on Liquifry No2, baby brine shrimps, and microworms. i'm going to start a culture of infusia. i'm also going to start feeding them ''tetra min baby''.

Thats a nice find. Ive too many hungry mouths to get them that far.
Hopefully I will get some when I move the hungry grow-outs to the big tank

always nice to see fry in a tank, i don't think you need to culture infusoria, powered fish food or liquidfry for live bearers is all i have ever used for cory fry

Well done, great seeing our "babies" isn't it? Will be a great addition to your new set up in the future especially when people ask where did you get them from you can say they're some of ones you bred. Okay not everyone is a egomaniac like myself but it does give you a sense of pride looking at the wee ones :D congrats

I was amazed myself because there are Angelfish, black widow, and Harlequin rasboras in the tank as well. the fry must have spent their ''life'' in the bushes eating rubbish!! or maybe eating those little white insects in the tank.

i'm feeding them 2 to 3 times a day but i dont see them eating tho.. but bellies are full. i've put the food container in a dark area and only take it out to feed them. (i would say that they are not used to bright light thats why they dont eat while being fed but prefer to wait to be back in the dark to eat).

I know what you mean, i was even thinking of trying to breed the black widows and the Rasboras.. i've seen them mating few times (a lot) but never seen any eggs nor fry. i bought a small tank off Peteemax the other day being used as a community tank at the moment but will use it as a breeding tank as soon as the new tank is up and running..

just spotted the video of the fry, i might be off the mark , but are they in a little tub floating in the tank?
if they are you would need to be doing lots of water changes to keep the water fresh, and have an airstone or air line in there to get a bit of circulation going, it would be worth you while buying one of those little hang on cages, a plastic frame and fine mesh sides on them, i picked one up the other day in a petshop in cork for under a fiver, it would give you much better circulation and make your life easier.

i have one of those net for fry but i was wondering, how am i going to keep the baby brine shrimps and micro worm in that square net.. the fish are 17days old, and are getting big, (well, still small but big enough). they are starting to look more like cories now.

One thing.. i added the 2 new cories on saturday, they bred few minutes later and the eggs are starting to hatch already. and i heard it takes 5 days for them to hatch. is there something wrong with my cories?
