Holidays time!!! And now, what to do???

Postby wanedileo on 21 Dec 2016 14:30

Hi guys! First of all I want to wish you all a very happy and blessed Christmas!
Soon now I will be going on holidays for about 4 weeks. This is one big challenge and is wrecking my nerves.
Thanks is about 6 months old;
9 fish + about 20 corals (mix of LPS, SPS, and a couple softies).
I am running triton;
Have an RO/DI auto top up;
Automatic pellet feeder;
My daughter tells me she will empty the skimmer cup, change the socks, scrape the front glass, add some frozen food and coral vitalizer + energy reef.
Am I missing something aside from a wee prayer?
Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.
Regards

Sounds like you have most things covered! I would leave a troubleshooting list just in case anything happens while you are away. I was away for a month last summer and left my 450L reef tank with the family, it was fine when I got home apart from a bit of algae. The main thing I said to them was don't do anything without checking with me first. Don't worry and enjoy your holiday!!!

Make sure you get the daughter to do the things on her own, with you there, if she has not done them before. Just means it would not be a surprise when left alone and unsure of something

I would also give the powerheads/wavemakers a good clean to make sure they are working at 100%

And a happy Xmas to you too, cheers

Try not to make too many changes before you go!! Stability is key. I did out a step by step picture guide on whatsapp for the basic maintenance procedures for my tank sitter. All will be fine. Happy Christmas

Hi there. Enjoy the holidays like everyone says. I just came back from one. Just a week but I'm away a lot from the tank. I notice you can't really prepare for all eventualities but you can minimise the dangers. For me it's overfeeding by others whenever I'm away so I always cut down feeding by 2 thirds when I'm away.
