2010 May - My very first Reef Tank

Permanent Linkby schriss on 27 Mar 2012 23:00

This was my very first Reef Tank. It was 40L BiUbe. Very bad choice for a reef tank, because it's much taller than wider, it's also round :-) It was designed for freshwater, but at that time I thought that just getting Marine Conversion Kit for it will do the trick.... LOL
Equipment:
40L BiUbe tank + Marine Conversion Kit (it adds small bright LED light). Later upgraded to small 2x11W 9K CFL lamp.
Small TetraTec Canister Filter filled with live rocks.
No Skimmer (didn't know about such a thing at that time)
No water changes since day one.
Additives used at that time: only Seachem brand.
Nitrate control: carbon dosing Brightwell BioFuel. Later also introduced Microbacter 7. Carbon dosing without a skimmer or water changes, I know. That's why I was battling hair algae for months :-D
That black-white damsel as well as clownfish and some of the corals are still with me in my new tank. Royal Gramma lived happily and died mysteriously only 4 weeks ago in a completely new tank and body was never found. It had it's own personal cave in which it slept and which it guarded. Something fishy must have happened...

Sorry about the image corruption.

Tank looks cool,
Is that wood at the bottom?

Is it 40ltr or 65?
