80 litre BOYU tank

Permanent Linkby nicolac7@gmail.com on 01 Jan 2010 20:51

This is a record of my 80 litre/21 Gallon BOYU tank - Set up on 25th November.

5 weeks in. Just added a beautiful mushroom platter, 6 line wrasse and Dendronepthea Carnation Coral all for The Seahorse Aquarium. The platter has made a huge boost of colour in the tank and filled out a gap also. I better wait a while before I add anything else new or it will be full before I know it.

Yea this is my first marine tank, had tropical when I was a kid but this seemed more challenging and it has been. Hum. 7 kelos of live rock to start with-you could even get more!. There was a lot of sponges and bio balls and that in the back so I am in the process of taking out a lot of that stuff and added 1 kilo of crushed live rock and some new carbon today. It didnt come with a skimmer as I doubt your did if it is similar but if you get lots of live rock you will get away without one, Im going to buy this month.

that is a cool prez you got your daughter....not the cheapest to get going but very rewarding. Ive gone to the seahorse aquarium for everything so far and found them to be very helpful. Once you get your live rock in there wait a week or 2 and get your clean up crew. some Hermit crabs (3 or 4), Cleaner shrimp (maybe get 2), Snails (a few diff types is meant to be good for the tank). to stop your snails being killed by the hermits to rob their shells throw in some spare shells for them to use. Hope this helps. This forum has been a lifesaver so far for advice.....Good Luck...lets know how it goes

Do you know what, although that is really generous offer and you are very kind Kealan in seahorse recommended one he thinks would be perfect for the tank and checked the measurement on it too and it would fit so I might still get this so maybe you could see if someone on the forum will swap it for some frags for your daughters new tank? Seriously thanks tho ... ur very good
